What are we saying about our connection to place when we construct buildings with no windows to the outside world; what is the visual message: That there is no need to look beyond; that everything we need is contained within these walls, in the glittering department stores and the overflowing supermarkets? There is no need even to decorate and honour the building, as all that matters is what can be bought from within.
