3. Going against the flow, 2012
Airports, places of departure and arrival, facilitate mass movement around the globe. When we emigrate, we carry a part of our homeland with us in the shape of our assumptions and beliefs. In countries such as Australia, dominated by people originating from all corners of the globe, with many different ways of connecting to the land and each other, that can no longer be fully realised, the culture of consumerism can play an important role.

The child in pink perhaps inadvertently symbolises something of our loss as she turns her back and playfully walks in the wrong direction along the travelator at airport departures.
